Lavender

If you are new to herbal medicine and naturopathy, your experience with me will differ from seeing your GP in the following ways:

  • Herbal medicine treats the person, not just the symptoms

  • Detailed initial consultation focusing on your health issues, medical history, medication, diet, lifestyle.  Tongue, pulse and eyes (iridology) will be examined

  • A mix of bespoke herbs prescribed so we are treating symptoms as well as root cause of health issues (each medicinal plant contains hundreds of active phytochemicals)

  • Naturopathic diet and lifestyle advice are given, if needed

  • Gut health is vital to health.  Naturopathic or Ayurvedic dietary recommendations to improve digestion, absorption and elimination will be given, if required

  • Functional laboratory testing can be arranged if needed, and supplements recommended

FAQ’s

  • Yes, they do. If you tried chamomile tea and you think it doesn’t do much you might be right.

Herbal teas sold in shops are not medicinal grade and tea bags rarely contain the whole flower head. Often, they are too old by the time you purchase them.

Herbs (leafs, flowers) have to be infused for 15minutes and covered in a mug, so that phytochemical can be extracted. Roots, berries and bark have to be decocted (boiled) for 15 minutes.

Additionally, the key is to chose the right plants to treat the person with. If a person is inflamed and therefore energetically hot, giving them a herb to sleep that is heating will make it worse. But a person that is always cold will benefit from it.

  • Professionally prescribed herbal medicine is safe, and can be used on its own or alongside pharmaceutical medication.

Herbalists are trained among other things in pharmacology, biomedicine, and possible herb drug interactions to ensure safe use of herbal medicine.

Consulting a professional herbalist is safer and more cost effective than self-medicating with over the counter preparations
